This is not just a logo. It’s a rebellion reborn - to protect whales.
"I do confess that the last two years have been a combination of confusion and urgency. After many decades of using the Jolly Roger Logo and fifty years after establishing Sea Shepherd, it was difficult to have everything I had built for half a century seized in a hostile takeover by a small group of deceitful mutineers.
After experimenting with new logos for the Captain Paul Watson Foundation, we have chosen a red flag depicting a Sperm whale attached to a broken harpoon. The whale represents the whale in whose eye I saw my destiny in June of 1975 during a confrontation with the Soviet whaling fleet. Since the original “Jolly Roger” was red, derived from the French “Jolie Rouge”, this logo restores our piratical roots and modus operandi. Instead of a flagpole, the flag is attached to a broken harpoon representing our determination to eradicate the horrific evil of whaling and the killing of dolphins.
This logo represents our commitment to the defense and protection of whales. Under this banner, we will achieve many victories." - Captain Paul Watson
